On Japanese View on Anne Frank

Why is Anne Frank very popular in Japan? This question has not been considered and may be worth considering.

(1)
Alain Lewkowicz, a French Jewish journalist, says, ”Anne Frank symbolizes the ultimate World War II victim,” “And that’s how most Japanese consider their own country because of the atomic bombs — a victim, never a perpetrator.”

(2)
Professor Rotem Kowner, an expert in Japanese history and culture at Israel's University of Haifa says, "In the 1950s and the 1960s, there were competitions in which Japanese teenagers had to reflect on the experience of Anne Frank. Thousands of teenagers sent their submissions to such competitions"
