On Friends and Facebook

I have recently realized that someone who is neither friend nor girlfriend/wife, say, coworkers, barwomen or neighbors I don't know well but just bow to, is unexpectedly important to me.

How about Facebook people? No doubt Zuckerberg's Facebook is a great invention in the first 21th century because it actually changed people's companionship and politics. However, it is just virtual to me and there's no change in my real life except waste of time.

僕は友でも恋人でもない、例えば同僚やバーテンや挨拶しかしないような隣人が案外重要だと気が付いた。フェイスブックの人たちはどうか。ザッカ―バーグのフェイスブックは、人間関係や政治を変え、２１世紀初頭の重大な発明だと言ってもよいだろう。ただ、僕にとってはヴァーチャルなものでしかなく、時間を浪費している以外変わったことはないな。
